Propsed Book overview (due 2015-16)
The Headteacher Development Series: This Way Up are a series of slim handbooks written as practical guides to Headship. They reflect both current leadership research and the author’s personal experience of Headship in a school that moved from special measures to good within 3 years.
The series is designed to coach and support written from first principles yet with the benefit of the author’s personal experience. The series are appropriate for Headteachers and leaders across phases and with diverse experiences in all varieties of schools. The key aim is to build confidence and empower Heads so they can move forward towards self advocacy.
Above all, the intention is to be a good read, engaging the reader and being accessible. It is hoped that the handbooks can be on a shelf, in the workplace or home, or on the computer and that the leader will dip in when they are thinking about an issue in their headship.
The topics for the series have been selected through discussion with NPQH candidates, newly appointed and experienced Headteachers. It is hoped that the writing can be a stimulus for discussion and debate between colleagues who are training and developing together.
"A significant part is written in the third person. Occasionally if I wish to draw on my experiences they will be in italics and written in the first person. Throughout the book there will be commentary from headteachers, educationalists, students and parents".
Any activities will be as appendices as standalone documents for photocopy purposes.
